Triphala
Triphala ( 'three fruits') is recommended and used more than any other Ayurvedic herbal formulation.
Popular for its unique ability to gently cleanse and detoxify the system while simultaneously nourishing and replenishing it, this traditional formula supports the proper functioning of the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and genitourinary systems.
Not only does Triphala help to detoxify and cleanse the colon, it also purifies the blood and removes toxins from the liver.
Triphala is composed of the dried fruits of amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki.
Haritaki, which is bitter tasting, is best known for its laxative qualities. Amalaki, which is very high in vitamin C (20 times more than citrus fruit) is sour tasting and is considered good for inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
In recent years, a number of research studies have found new uses for this herb, including treatment for various forms of cancer. Other benefits include reducing serum cholesterol and high blood pressure.
